A retinal specialist told me that it would be around my area soon and that surgeons should perfect it by next summer after about 6mos use.Anyone know of this technique?Thanks in advance for any info.

Hello everyone.

At 10:45 am in about an hour, I'm heading to see a doctor whos going to inspect my eye and vitreous to see if its healing properly. I'm hoping for some good news regarding my numerous blood floaters. Hopefully they will clear completely and hopefully the doctor can answer this question. I'll get back to you when I arrive back home and fill you all in.

cataract in only one eye - IOL's?

After fov it's highly likely I'll need an IOL in the fov'd eye because i have small cataracts already. I don't have many floaters in the other eye and because the cataract in that eye is small, i don't envisage touching it with any kind of surgery if I can help it -at least for a couple of years which will allow for some advances in IOLS.

FOV for a trauma-induced-PVD?

Has anyone had a FOV for a trauma-induced-PVD? I am seeing the vitreous sac float when I move my eyes (windshield wiper effect), but no other floaters; it is detached in the posterior-medial 1/4 of the eye. I am going to see Dr. Charles on Dec9th.

1) Would likely treatment be a complete-induced-PVD + vitreous-removal? (or just partial removal of the vitreous?)

2) How risky is induced-PVD on an otherwise healthy eye (RD, CME, etc)?

I just want to say for all of those who have undergone one or two successful FOV's as I have yet have some pesky residual floaters and are interested about another FOV I would like to share my story.

Could the folks who have had FOV or who have consulted with surgeons about getting FOV provide some insight as to the cost? I have reviewed a large number of threads in this forum, but I didn't see anything that clearly lays it out. I have seen individual posts indicating that the cost could be anywhere from $8200 to $12000.

Also, if the FOV veterans could share whether insurance covered it, I would really appreciate it.

Hi. Two questions. I'm hearing more and more fov patients talk about post-op pain and needing to take pain meds. Does anyone know if doctors routinely prescribe pain medication to their fov patients and if so, is it just ibuprofin/aspirin or stronger stuff like vicodin? I know each doctor is different, but in general should I expect to walk out of Charles' clinic with a prescription or should I go down there with my own em, "stash" just in case I need it?? Well today it has been a week since my FOV (2nd in my left eye since March of 2007). My vision itself has drastically improved but unfortunately I have some extremely annoying floaters still.

Most are off to the sides but there is one that is constantly in my central field of vision. It's like a small cobweb and if I move my eye up or down it pops up. This makes reading very difficult under lights and I went back to work last night and because I'm not suppose to lift much...

I had surgery November 4th and I know its early but I'm very worried about what I'm seeing. From what I've read my eye does not seem to have the typical "blood inflamation cells" that have been described by others.

I am worried that what I'm seeing are collargen cells and I'm really really wondering if I made a huge mistake in trying to get those residual floaters by having yet another FOV.

Hey everyone.

Well I wish I could say my third FOV went as smooth as my last two but so far it has not. Apparently as the infusion was being taken out it opened up some blood in my eye. My eye is now loaded with blood floaters which far outnumber the floaters I had before going in. My eye sight is very, very blurry right now.

Dr Mackool did however say that these blood floaters will eventually dissolve. I just got home a couple hours ago so I'm hoping slowly but...

Has anyone looked recently at the description of the word "floaters" in Wikipedia? Is it just me or is the description and the analysis becoming more and more skewed towards certain treatment options, namely laser vitreolysis?
