loulou, what I have read it's they are just starting from the products yet used to "help" in vitrectomies, like Vitrase, etc... what they are researching is if injecting more of this solutions, the Vitreous detach completely, so the oftalmologist don't has to make three "big holes": light, cut and aspire ( I think these are their fucntions) if not only one that injects the solution, and after 15-30 mits the same cannule can aspire the detached vitreous.

Also, with the enzymatic solutions seems to make unnecesary the "mechanical" process of "cut" the vitreous. And that's where the Vitrase seemed to fail, as in numerous occasions Vitrase don't make a complete PVD. And that's where they advances are coming: with microplasmin and urokinase.

If you can, before making you a direct vitrectomy ask your oftalmologists if they know these options. What we need it's to speed this reseach, because Laser never will be a finnal solution, and mechanical vitrectomy can't be better done. The only viable ways are regenerate the vitreous (nobody knows now) or detach vitreous as safe as possible, and the only way is injecting "something". so I repeat, "teach your oftalmologists about this way", and yes, make them feel they can win a lot of money doing that if they are of the first to use this new technique.

Perhaps in the future we will have "PVD-Cola" in bottles os 33 cl, you drink and voila vitreous out... but until then...
