I try to be realistic with patients. When I tell a patient there is "an 85% chance of improvement", I make sure that they understand that what I said was not"85% improvement."And, of course that means that 15% might not consider the change 'success'.

Those of us who do laser consider it the procedure of choice for those it can help. Vitrectomy is a second choice, for obvious reasons. I have done a good number of lasers on patients who had vitrectomy in the opposite eye.

And, let me emphasize again, we do our best given the limitations of surgery.
