Weba, the problem is a lot of people think what they know is always the absolute truth or that such theories like you describe is not true. Lot of people freak out for nothing. Maybe among your hypothesis, most are totally false regarding floaters, but some are maybe a good hints for the cause at least. Who know (but that is why we try to understand!!). Some people will say "no, it makes no sense", and sometime these people speak too fast till you prove them wrong. If these people judge you like a freak, then their problem I guess (even if it makes us feel bad sometime how other judge us!). They may think that it is another person freaking out and thinking without understanding, but at least among your hypothesis you talk about the possibility that you are just worrying for nothing (you are pretty conscious!). I do not think all ophthalmologists are that dumb and don't know a little about floaters (probably more than we think, at least I hope), however like us, they don't really know of a "real [safe and effective] solution".

As for being hypochondriac, it might be that we worry about other thing being a sign of something worst... personally I think that when the body is healthy, thing goes better, and when there is a lot of little problems, well it is not a good sign and it often generate a lot of other problems (I feel this is my state since sometime and floaters are the cherry on the top of the sundae! however I was not as much annoyed by other problem and I believed only resting or time will fix these! I am less confident with floaters, but I still hope they will disappear!). Having a headache, stomachache, etc. one day is one thing... have multiple physical problems constantly and for long term is another thing. It is no more worry, it is fact like "my head hurt since one month", "I have joint pain", etc. Does it hides something terrible, maybe not, but does it hide something, for sure! And for the floaters, we are not hypochondriac, it is just another fact we have to endure.

Some people would see one floaters for some minutes in a particular condition and worry that some monster is in their eyes and that they are going to die, get blind, etc. -- that is over-panic if you understand a little what floaters is. However having floater always in your vision constantly is really life affecting.... ARGH!!! DIE FLOATERS (yeah they are maybe already dead thing, so DISAPPEAR FLOATERS!).
