I can feel the computer vibrating with all those positive vibes. Your operation is bound to be a success

Thanks everyone!  I really appreciate your being there for me.

Dave, I am disturbed about ending up with some post-op debris, as the patient that I talked with said that after her first surgery her eye was perfectly clear and after the other she had some debris.  The good thing is that she said most of the debris had settled away.  I can't recall how long she said it took, but she said she thought it was hard to get all the vitreous out and that this could be the reason for the residual stuff.  She is 71 though, and I can't imagine that her vitreous wasn't mostly liquified.  The same thing happened with other surgeon in town who said he'd perform an FOV on me.  The patient I talked with said one of his eyes was crystal clear and the other had debris.  He ended up having a second FOV to clear the remaining debris and that time the surgeon used kenalog.

If I do end up having debris, I think my eye will have a better chance of clearing it out since the aqueous humor should be more liquid than my vitreous, giving the debris a chance to settle to the bottom and get absorbed through the eye's tribecular meshwork.  I don't think there's any way my eye could get rid of the giant cobweb that's there now.

Then, I could always bail out on Wed. and go to Phoenix and have Dr. Sipperley perform the surgery.  Jimmy Jertson said he had good results with very little debris in both eyes, with the exception of some stuff that bubbled up post surgery day 4--probably leftover kenalog.  But at the time I made my decision to have the surgery in St. Louis, I was most concerned about complications from infection, so I was sold on the fact that the surgeon I chose operates in a major hospital with a good track record.  I got a bit scared of surgery centers when this surgeon said he chose not to join into a surgery center partnership because they have a tendency to cut corners to save money, and I know nothing about Barnet Dulaney Perkins' track record.  Plus, Doris said that many of her friends have had surgery with my surgeon with excellent results, and that she trusts him implicitly.  She said she didn't even do any research on vitrectomy!

Anyway, I may ask my surgeon one last question about what percentage of his patients experience debris post vitrectomy, what percentage of those people report that it goes away and how long does it take for that to happen.
