Hi guys -- It's hard for me to type looking at the bright computer screen since my eye is so dilated, but I wanted to let you know that I have beautiful clear vision in my right eye! Of course, it is still blurry due to the dilation. I don't see any floaters, post op debris or frill. I think my surgeon did a superb job. The only thing he said I do have is a little spot of blood inside the eye from the cannula, but I can't see it. He said the air bubble is filling about 40 percent of my eye. It's pretty hard to see over it and it is causing glare and reflection. My eye pressure was 17, and he said that means that my eye is making fluid.
As far as the procedure was concerned. my surgeon said that when he detached the hyaloid membrane, it actually peeled off in two layers. The first layer was thicker and the second layer was thin. He said he thought about using kenalog to be sure he got the thin layer, but in the end he decided to go without it, and he said the attending fellow concurred. He said it detached well at the vitreous base, and he was able to take a good shave at the vitreous behind the lens, too.
The surface of the eye looks pretty white with the exception of the outer corner, which is a bit bloodshot. I did have some discomfort today, sort of like sinus pressure, when I didn't take my ibuprofen on schedule. The hospital called today to see how I was doing, and they said it was normal to have some discomfort as a result of the surgery. It just felt really weird, especially after I really didn't feel anything yesterday. The nerve block is pretty long lasting though, about 8 hours, so I guess that's why yesterday was pretty sensation free. I also called the surgeon's office and they said it was normal to have some discomfort but that it wouldn't last long.
Anyway, I'm very happy with the results so far. Trying to take it easy and not stress about the process as my body tries to heal.
Art, the lady who developed an infection was eshops. I believe she was a patient in the UK.
