Dr Charles uses a similar technique to Dr Mackool (who no longer performs FOVs or so I understand). They both do not induce a PVD and leave a thin layer on the retina. I think they believe this is one aspect of their technique that reduces changes of cataract. And, this seems to be what I experienced. Dr Mackool performed 4 FOV procedures on my left eye. I started out before my first FOV with a small "granule", which was the beginning stage of a cataract. I had the first FOV, there was a residual floater, he did the second and third ones 3 months layer to remove the residual floater (he missed it the second attempt). A year went by with no growth of the cataract "granule", but I experienced a PVD in that eye, and Dr Mackool then performed a 4th FOV to remove the PVD membrane. After that layer was removed from the retina, my cataract started growing almost immediately. A year and a half later (a few weeks ago), I had an IOL for that eye. Now my vision is crystal clear, and I love my new lens.
