Vitrectomy may be effective in removing floaters, but it is far from an ideal treatment and I wouldn't necessary call it safe. A treatment for floaters that didn't give you cataracts would be nice.

I believe why there is little to no research being done on floaters is because doctors don't consider it a problem. They don't listen to people who have troubling floaters and insist that they're nothing but a minor annoyance. Just because they're not a problem for most people doesn't mean that they're not a problem for everyone. Their logic is pretty twisted in this case. It's like they can't even sympathize with a patient just because they haven't experienced what its like to have bad floaters. It should be obvious to doctors if patients are willing to undergo a vitrectomy in order to rid themselves of their floaters, that floaters can be a major problem and should be taken more seriously!

Obviously not all eye doctors think this way, but about 99% of them do.
