I haven't read this board in a while, but today my mother had laser procedures to rid her of the posterior capsule opacities or "secondary cataracts" she developed after surgery a year ago. She's about to turn 80 years of age and developed her first floaters. I came here to see if more doctors were doing them in case they become a quality of life issue for her.

Anyway, I'm glad to know there are doctors performing the surgery in the northeast USA. I had two FOVs performed by Dr. Richard Mackool. I believe one was in 2009 and the other in 2011. There is rarely a day that goes by, no matter what gripes and complaints or worries and frustrations I'm having that I don't stop and thank God for Dr. Mackool. Without this board I wouldn't have found the information, help, support, and courage to know there was a solution to floaters that I had developed in my twenties and eventually became soul-crushing.

The last I heard Dr. Mackool was no longer doing FOVs. That's such a shame. He's my hero! I told him he replaced Roger Staubach as my all-time greatest hero. He laughed and told me Roger is tough to beat!

I know some of you are scared and wondering whether or not to go through with it. I was really scared. But, two guys on the board who had successful FOV's (one in the UK and the other from Dr. Mackool) raised my spirits and encouraged me to go for it. I am so thankful that they did. I had 100% success in both eyes. I'm a scuba diving instructor (I teach tech and cave diving) and a lifeguard. I love the beach again, sunny days, white boat decks, and often forget to wear sunglasses and only remember to do so to protect my eyes from rays rather than to camouflage floaters.

Since my surgeries, I became an aquanaut with two missions in underwater habitats, I received an award for completing over 1000 cave dives, and I met a beautiful woman who is a figure skating coach. Would you believe that I could sit in the bleachers all day long and watch her skate on the ice? My Christmas present to her was SNOWBOARDING lessons! I spent a lot of the day with my sunglasses perched on my head taking in the mountain beauty and the snow with my own eyes - floater free!

I went from the lowest point of despair in my life to feeling what I can only describe as overwhelming gratitude for those who gave me courage, the doctor who I could just hug every day, and a belief in the loving mercy of God. We are lucky today to have access to the science that can change our lives.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those of you who continue to suffer - especially those who've had a bad aftermath. When I had my FOVs a lot of good results were being reported which helped. I hope that the board becomes filled with more and more threads and posts with good results to encourage those who might be greatly helped and reclaim the full joys of living. I just wanted to share my story with you to offer some hope.
