I spoke to Dr. Wong about this and he said that he's not sure why people use air bubbles, and I noticed several threads that state whoever had anything extra "injected" into the eye, air bubble/ saline etc has had serious complications.

Why do they do this during surgery?
To avoid infection and hypotony. Those that had extra "injected" into eye, seems to be because of hypotony, so I actually consider it a good thing. But maybe sutures is better.
