Correct. I had FOV surgery by Dr Andrew Chang at his private operating facility (187 Park St Sydney) in October 2003. The result for me is outstanding. I put up with a really bad floater resulting from PVD for ten years before taking the plunge with surgery. I also travelled to Melbourne where there is an eye doctor willing to try the YAG laser for floater disruption. It didn't do a thing for me but this doctor was the one to convince me an FOV was the way to go. Best decision I ever made. Dr Andrew Chang is a wonderful surgeon who has done literally thousands of vitrectomies. My left eye has been 100% floater-free since the surgery. I did develop a cataract almost immediately post surgery. This was removed in Sept. 2004 and intra-ocular lens implanted that corrected my -2D myopia to 0D. Result is I am now functionally glasses-free. (I believe this is known as monovision.) Due to -2D myopia, my right eye is fine for reading without glasses (except for fine print - I am now 62 years of age so I have usual presbyopia). Hence for normal purposes I am independent of glasses. However, I prefer to wear glasses for night driving to correct the myopia in my right eye. I could not be happier with the result of my decision to have ophthalmic surgery and assure Australian floater sufferers that we have world class surgeons and operating facilties here who can help you. I know of several surgeons in Sydney doing FOVs and at least one in Melbourne. Happy to supply further information to anyone interested.
