I have had my floaters for a couple of years now and have been trying to figure out what might have caused it. I have come to the conclusion that most people have floaters all their life and don't realise it....sometimes they see them but just think it is a bit of dirt and don't focus in on the problem. Its when you start 'seeing' the floater you concentrate harder and focus your eyes in such a way that allows the light to pass through the eye and backlight them....the more i 'look' at my floaters the more i can see other ones. I look back to days before I noticed the floaters and I can recall seeing them and not paying any attention to them but now my eyes are always focusing in on them and I am looking to see if they have got worse etc. A few years back I sketched a map of my floaters in both eyes against a bright white wall and now looking back on that map I can see that they haven't really increased in number but my eyes see them easier whithout having to look for them. so previously where I would only see them under florescent lights and light walls, i can see them in dull light as well!

As for medicine causing them....well I am unsure still, but I think maybe taking some medicines might make your eyes more sensitive to light (pupils dialate?) and hence you only see them easier, and being at a stage where you are looking for side effects to the new medicine you are alarmed and concentrate in on them and the madness of floaters begin!!!!

I have noticed that people say their floaters move around in the eyes, but mine are stationary. sure they move across my vision as i move my eyes and head etc but they are always in the same spot once i stop moving my eyes.
