I have had one floater in my left eye since about the age of 15. It was very small and insignificant; I only noticed it after reading text on a white background for a long time.
That floater has since increased in size (the center of it is larger, and there are now two lines that go away from it in different directions). I am also seeing what seems to be the start of a new one in my right eye. The floater in my left eye (the pre-existing one that grew recently) is now very noticable and annoying. Reading has become a chore instead of a pleasure since I'm distracted by the moving blob quite frequently.
I have read some of the causes listed on this site. I think they are all plausible, and have some theories of my own. If anyone is able to provide any evidence to support or reject these ideas, please post it. Please also post if you have had similar experiences.
I was not aware of the multi-vitamin connection until reaching this BBS. It makes sense in my case though, as I started taking multi-vitamins about one week before the floater in my left eye increased in size. That is worrisome to me. Does anyone know if floaters caused by multi-vitamins will go away once a person stops taking them?
Second, I am prone to migraine headaches. They are unrelated to stress, usually more to depression, and sometimes unrelated to anything at all. I started getting migraines at about the same time that the floater increased in size. I have read that there is a connection between migraines and floaters, but have not found any sort of causal relationship or suggested remedy.
Third, I take wellbutrin from depression. I have found no link described on the internet between floaters and wellbutrin, but I do not want to rule this out as a possibility since, like most anti-depressants, wellbutrin has a tendency to produce strange side effects from time to time. Is anyone else here who has floaters taking the drug wellbutrin? Zyban (the quit-smoking pill) contains the same active ingredient, as well.
Also, is there any serious damage that can be caused by floaters? Or are they a symptom of any more serious diseases or vision problems?
