My name is Tony. I am 38 years old and a medical professional. I am not a physician. I have suffered from a prominent floater in my left eye for the past 15 months. Itis a clump of several filaments and fairly dark. It resides in my outer periphery and darts into my central vision with eye movements. It has been very distracting, annoying, and exasperating. After noticing it, I had a full examination by an ophthalmologist. He said there was nothing wrong pathologically, and that my eyes were healthy. He did say that virtually nothing could be done about the floater and that eventually it would stay in my periphery and not my center of vision. After about a year there was no change. No better or worse. I did some internet research and decided to start using MSM eye drops (3-4 drops per day) about a month ago. These drops are a nutrient solution, and supposedly increase the permeability of the tissues in the eye. I felt that this might help nutrients and other substances enter the eye and help the situation. I also started taking Centrum multivitamins daily. This didn't seem to help. I casually mentioned my problem to a co-worker. He told me he had floater problems in college, but that they went away about a week after taking multivitamins. He also said that some time later he stopped taking vitamins and in time floaters returned. After starting the vitamins again, they went away! I mentioned that the vitamins didn't seem to help me, but I was intrigued by his experience. The interesting part is that he didn't take Centrum, but rather Myadec brand. I was kind of skeptical, but when you have a problem such as this, you are willing to try almost anything to improve the situation. The Myadec vitamins were not available in stores in my area of Connecticut, but I easily obtained them online. The formulation is slightly different from Centrum, and they do not contain lutein. I started taking one a day about a week ago. They must be taken with a meal, as some of the vitamins are fat-soluble and will not dissolve unless some fat is ingested with the pill. I also continued with the MSM drops. About 4 days after starting on the Myadecs, unbelievably, I started to see a change! The floater, although still present, became lighter and less noticeable. At first I thought it was a placebo effect, but the next day I confirmed that the floater was indeed more transparent, lighter, and less visible. It has been a week now, and the floater seems to be slightly less noticeable every day. I know this sounds incredible and I can't believe it myself, but it seems to be true. Perhaps itis the cumulative effect of ths MSM drops or the combination of them and the Myadecs, but my gut tells me it is the Myadecs. In any event, most of the time I don't notice the floater anymore unless I look for it, which is a great relief to me. I am posting this because I know a lot of people are suffering with this awful ailment, and I thought perhaps someone could benefit from my experience. By the way, I also said a daily prayer to St. Jude. Perhaps this helped, perhaps not, but it certainly didn't hurt. Best of luck to all who are plagued with this condition.
