Hi everyone,
I've had a pretty hefty volume of floaters in both eyes for about 18 years now, and I learnt to live happily with them a long, long time ago. Recently, though (for about the last four months), something new's come up with my vision that my doctor's put down to my floaters, but I'm not so sure.
When I look at straight edges (door frames, blinds, the backs of cars), and sometimes non-straight edges, I'm getting a weird, sort of intermittent vibration (kind of like a guitar string being plucked) along the edge itself. Sometimes it's the whole edge, but usually, it's just sections of it that judder up and down or left and right. Generally, if it's just a straight edge alone, it doesn't happen, but with multiple parallel edges it can go quite crazy. For example, I was looking at a shelf of folded-up towels in a shop the other day, and they were jittering about all over the place. Similarly, the venetian blind in my bathroom, and the back of a car at night (with my headlights shining on it) yesterday.
Now, I've just had an MRI scan for multiple sclerosis, which came back negative (my other symptom being a constant need to urinate), but as such scans are apparently a bit less than 100% accurate, I'm still rather terrified about the whole thing. I've read about oscillopsia being a symptom of MS, but I'm not even sure if what I'm experiencing qualifies as that since it's not like my whole visual field is moving - just certain bits of it when looking at certain things. And it's quite an irregular movement of only the edges of things, rather than 'objects moving' per se, which is what oscillopsia seems to be described as. Oh, and it stops completely if I shut either eye.
So, can anyone here say they've experienced the same thing or anything like it? My doctor (who didn't really seem to be listening to me) has put it down to my floaters, but I've had those for half my life, so I can't help thinking I would have noticed it before now.
Any thoughts or reassurance appreciated!
Thanks,
