Hi,
I would like to share my story with my floater condition. I'm a computer programmer of medium build (not skinny, not obese either). I'm 25 years old. I have brown eyes. I think I noticed my first floater in 2005. It appeared as a black dot in the upper right corner of my right eye. I think one of the cause of it is high stress level. During that time I was working intensively on my final project and would stay late in front of the computer doing programming with the occasional coffee and cigarette break. My attitude and thoughts at that time were "cool" and just laughed it off.
I graduated in September 2005 and soon got a job doing embedded programming. I didn't notice the floater anymore. It was as if it was gone. I switched jobs doing web programming for a much better pay in 2006 and it was a high pressure/stress job. Needless to say my floater came back, along with other illness. I quit my job and went freelancing for the rest of 2006. Surprise surprise, the floater somehow disappeared. I got another job doing web programming in 2007 in a low stress environment and I swear there was not even a single appearance of floaters in that year. I also need to mention that I quit smoking that year and quit the caffeine the next year. Too bad we closed shop. After months of low stress freelance work, because of family pressure I reluctantly got myself another job in 2008. The office is small, fully air conditioned (bad air circulation), my cubicle doesn't get any sunlight (moderate sunlight makes my floaters kinda go away) and the LCD monitor kinda flickers. The floater is back, this time it was accompanied with a smaller black dot to the left of the original one with a string like structure kind of connecting the two. Of course there are other string like floater in the top left corner and tiny cobweb-like structure in the lower right corner but they are easily ignorable and can only be seen if I intently and purposely stare at clouds in mid-day. All floaters is in my right eye.
Some say it's genetic. I asked my parents about their experience. My mother said she has floaters in a cobweb-like shape and my father said he used to have them ("flies" as he used to call them) but somehow they disappeared (either that or his brain has adapted and learned to completely ignore the damn thing). Unlike me, both of them developed floaters in their old age, not in their twenties.
P.S. English is not my native language, sorry for any misspellings and grammatical errors.
