What a retinal specilist told me? |

My retinal specilist told me that it couldnt have been the LASIK bcos LAZIK only treats the surface of the eye and that i was just noticing my floaters more
post-LASIK because of my improved eyesight, could this be true?

Hi, Yes, it could - some people see more floaters after cataract surgery for the same reason. However it can also be due to the laser method,- any kind of
aggrevation to the eye, no matter how small, can cause floaters - i read that its not the actual laser, but something to do with how the eye is held in place
and in some cases the suction ring used in some lasik procedures...it can induce an early PVD and hence floaters.
In any case, if lasik makes floaters more apparent, for any reason, i think there should be more publicity about it - I've heard loads of people complaining about floaters after lasik. |

I havent heard many ppl say that lasik has caused a pvd... is there anybody on this forum that has had that happen to them?
If the floaters are only becoming more apparant because of improved eyesight then surely the problem is more psychological, and people could just re-tune them out? I know from my experience and i was very short sighted that people with high degree of short sightetness have a tendency to have more floaters anyway. |

lasik can cause floaters | #3 | ||

I've seen many cases. The suction ring ( 60 mmHg ) that holds the eye for the blade sucks peripheral opacities into the pre macular bursa in some
cases...but it is not predictable.

I have bad floaters after lasik. They started 2 months after surgery. Do not believe the misinformation the docs are giving you. I never heard of floaters
until I had lasik. I have floaters now for 6 months and they are driving me crazy.

I've seen some younger patients who swear their floaters came about a few weeks after LASIK. I'm sure it's true. But for the millions of people
that have had LASIK, most do not. So it is not that common.
I disagree that with better vision you will be more aware of the floaters. The floaters are shadows most directly influenced by size, density, location, size of pupil, ambient light, and background that you are looking at. I agree more with Dr. Geller as to the suction and consequent distortion of the eye during that 60 seconds or so. More likely with a keratome (blade) flap. But intralase (laser) also uses suction, but less of it. I've written a bit on the premacular bursa HERE I hope that clarifies a bit.
