Does hppd really exist? (Hallucinogen Persisting
According to the article in Wikipedia, it seems that people who suffer from this condition become aware of
visual disturbances ( floaters included ) that are common in normal people but do not notice them or their brain just
ignores them!!!! It attributes this condition to a malfunction in the Central Nervous System rather than the eyes due
to use of hallucinogens. Could this also happens without the use of hallucinogens?
I have been to many ophthalmologists and these are some of their comments:-
" Everyone have floaters but for a yet unknown reason some become aware of them"
" I have seen old people with severe eye floaters but they are not aware of them"
" The vitreous is not clear at all but filled with debris and yellowish/brownish in colour but the brain
filters everything so that we see clearly"
I always dismissed the above comments as a way to avoid the issue of my floaters but I am not 100% sure yet.
Even because there are times where the intensity of my floaters diminishes or increases, depending on my state of mind apart from the weather conditions. So,
it seems that the mind does play a role to a certain degree.
I think Dr. Mehel in France can really answere whether our problem lies within our brain or eyes. It has been
mentioned in one of the posts that in France Dr. Mehel projects the floaters onto a screen for the patient to see for
himself. Then, if floaters are projected on the screen of individuals who never reported seeing them, then our problem might lie in our mind. If not, then it
is for sure in our eyes.
My current understanding is that our problem lies within our eyes because the liquefication process of our
vitreous went beyond a certain threshold and our mind cannot ignore them anymore.
