I haven't been active on this forum for quite a while, but I've been following it from time to time. As I started to feel decently comfortable with the thought of scheduling a vitrectomy, one complications report after another started popping up on the forum...
The vitrectomy risk profile typically stated seems relatively acceptable, but when reading recent posts on the forum, it seems as if lots of people suffer from complications. Do you think this is due to reporting bias, i.e. that people who have complications turn to the forum for help and support, while many of those who have had a successful victrectomy simply go on with their lives without posting (or simply never find the forum in the first place)? Of course, there have also been a number of success stories here, and that's encouraging!
I saw that the One Clear Vision team is planning some kind of survey on vitrectomy outcomes. That sounds really good, but I'm afraid that it will be prone to reporting bias, as well.
